A Goan Wedding
Last week I was in Goa for my cousins wedding. Well I do not know how many people know the customs that goans or basically even celebrated by manglorainsas well. Its called roas (pronounced Row-sc).
What is Roas?
Its a ceremony done a day before the wedding, where coconut milk is poured on the complete bridal group, thats the bride the groom, the maids and the best men.
Each person other attending the function other than the people mentioned above is suppose to pour some coconut water on the bridal couple. This symbolises purity, something like washing away all the impurities before you get married. Like washing away all the shit you did when you were single and become one after marriage.
In the picture below you can see the Bride’s Maids getting doused with the coconut milk by her relatives and friends. The coconut milk is in the blue bucket.
In the image below you actually get to see the coconut milk dripping down.
Some people even smash a couple of eggs on the bridal couple, but that’s just for fun
and does not symbolise anything.
There was a Bachelor’s party that we had before the Roas. The bridesgroom was having a ball of a time during the Roas because of the trips he did at the bachelor’s party.
Then the next day as usual was the wedding.
The guy on the extreme right is getting married he’s 25! Thats young ain’t it?
The Brides’ maids are in green and the bride’s sister is on the extreme right!
Finally out of the church, two became one.
