Road Trippin from Mumbai to Nepal!
What started off as a road trip turned out to become an adventure of a lifetime. Myself, Bhavika and Kayde – our 10-month old baby – went on a journey from Mumbai to Nepal where we crossed six Indian States and traveled within Nepal in our 11-year old car.
Yes, we made it with a baby and the car. We covered a total of 5,530 km (around 3436 miles, thats more than the width of USA at the maximum point) on our road trip. We traversed through the potholed roads of Madhya Pradesh, went on a boat ride in the Ganges, entered Chitwan forest at night, gazed at the Himalayan Peaks from Kathmandu, visited the birthplace of Gautam Buddha in Lumbini and many more interesting experiences!
Driving in Nepal was much more relaxing as compared to the journey across India. But as they say, “Its not the destination, but the journey that counts!” To start off, there was practically no information online about suggested routes to Nepal, except Google Maps which was very useful in charting the roadmap.
Here’s a look at our self-planned route to Nepal, we went from Mumbai–>Jalgaon–>Pench–>Jabalpur–>Varanasi–>Gorakhpur–>Chitwan via Sunauli border. While returning we skipped Madhya Pradesh since the state of the highway was worse than a remote village road, we took Lumbini–>Lucknow–>Agra–>Jaipur–>Pushkar–>Ahmedabad–>Mumbai.
You would have to connect the dots, every balloon indicates a stop over, though we din’t stick to the highway all the way, sometimes roads that were shown on the map didn’t exist in reality. Anyway, will delve deeper into the route as we take you Roadtrippin from Mumbai to Nepal!
