Baby-Throwing Ritual in India
The birth of a child is always an occasion to celebrate for the family, and people do it in different ways. Muslims in western India have been following a freaky ritual for more than five hundred years.
They throw their infant off a 15-meter high (nearly 50 feet) tower with the intention of making them stronger and healthier. Of course there are group of people waiting down holding a white piece of cloth where the babies are dropped. The baby bounces once on the cloth and the baby is then caught before the second bounce.
This ritual is carried out at a shrine in Solapur, a small town in Maharashtra. The faithful believe that it will make their children strong and the organisers claim that no accidents have occurred till date.
But its a scary thought to throw your baby off the building, because they are so delicate and they are carried also with so much caution, while here people are flinging their babies.
Watch the video below to get a glimpse of this bizarre ritual. Hundreds of men taking turns to throw their babies off the building, its a pity to see the child crying after its thrown off the roof.
Apparently Solapur isn’t the only place where the ceremony takes place, it happens in various parts of the countries by Muslims as well as Hindus. Some people have questioned as to why the authorities don’t intervene, but we are pretty sure they cannot challenge the peoples beliefs.
