Street Art of Invisible Objects
Electrical boxes on the pavements and streets of Mumbai often don’t blend with the urban landscape, sometimes I wish something colorful could be done on it, to at least make the walk on crowded streets pleasant.
Artist Joshua Callaghan had a way to change these urban eyesores rather disguise them into appealing objects and beautify the surroundings. Callaghan pasted pictures of the scenery hidden behind the object on these utility boxes, which created an illusion of an invisible object.
The pictures are unique as they blend with the surroundings. Callaghan prints the pictures on special adhesive vinyl, so its permanently affixed on utility boxes.
To avoid another urban eyesore of grafitti and scribbling on it, the pictures are coated with a special chemical. Callaghan says these images should last for around a decade.
The above images from Callaghan’s series of public art projects found in Los Angeles. We need something like this in India, all those red and grey boxes need a revamp.
What are the chances of a pedestrian walking right into one of these ‘invisible objects’?
