Jester Guru Chronicles, Part 1: I Am From the Future

trickster-god “It is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire.” -Jorge Luis Borges

Greetings! Your resident trickster-god in training here, with an important message: the future is a wonderfully beautiful place. But you’ll need to become healthier – mind, body, and soul – in order to appreciate it. You’ll need to discipline yourself in the forces of love, compassion, and forgiveness. You’ll need to let Mother Nature become your primary teacher. You’ll need to let Pain become your secondary teacher.

You’ll need to hack your own life and get down to the roots of who you really are: the universe attempting to perceive itself. In short, you’ll need to unlearn what you have learned by an unhealthy culture, recondition what has been conditioned into you, and wash off the brainwash. Like Philip Guston surmised, “To know and then how not to know is the greatest puzzle of all… so much preparation for a few moments of desperate play. To learn how to unlearn.”

Allow me to be the Unlearn to your Learn, the Yoda to your Luke. Any narrative touches only here and there upon the great mystery of life, like a butterfly skimming over the grass, or a photon leaving its trail of discriminate collisions through the stopgap gravity of space and time. And so this narrative will likely fall short. Even still, I have come to elucidate what I can.

After all, we are not merely egos in bags of skin that must be force-fed God, rather, we are walking aspects of the cosmos itself. We are God precisely by letting go of the ideal of God. Not only is this disposition beyond theology and ideology, it is beyond atheism and nihilism. It is beyond good and evil.

It brings us transcendence over meaninglessness and pins absurdity into a state of uncertain gaiety and joyous unity with all things. It frees us to transform the darkness inside us, into the best in us. It liberates our demons into subsumable things. Like Nietzsche said, “The demon that you can swallow gives you its power, and the greater life’s pain, the greater life’s reply.” Swallow the dark and then let there be light.

But like I said, you’ll need to learn how to hack your own life in order to gain the courage to take that step. You’ll need to tap into your inner trickster, your inner Infinite Player, your inner Sacred Clown.

You’ll need to break yourself down to the roots that connect you to all things. So consider this article today’s dose of hard love. When you need shelter, I’ll be the rain. When you need a parachute, I’ll be the fall. When your glass house needs a mirror, I’ll be the stone. You can have your personality pigeonholes, Alpha and Beta. I’ll take Omega, and astonish you all. After all… Turning demons into diamonds is my alchemy, baby.
victims into warriors
Transforming victims into warriors is my self-fulfilling prophecy. Breaking molds is my most persistent legerdemain. I’ve hacked the multiverse. I’ve surfed destructive waves of entropy.

I’ve dry gulched the gods. I’ve eaten a thousand egos and I’m ready to eat a thousand more. I’ve inverted polarity in between worlds so many times that I’ve lost track of divergence only to gain providence. I’ve been to the past and saved a thousand Christs from a thousand crosses, turning the spears on power so abruptly that Power itself became nothing more than a pebble beneath my boot.

I’ve been to the future. I’ve pounded the earth with hooves of love as the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse’s noble steed, Providence. I’ve seen humans living in healthy, sustainable balance with the natural world. And I’m here to tell you that it is all ours for the taking. It is there, pulsing on the periphery of our unsustainable world, just waiting for us to embrace it, to breathe it in, to honor it as the sacred dance we were all meant to dance, or die trying.

No social system can base itself for too long on the principles of unsustainability, dancing an unsacred dance. It can only be secured through paranoia. Civilization is like a corpse on our back, a heavy burden. We carry it, connecting various life-support systems to it in a vain attempt to keep it alive because we’re under the illusion that it sustains us; when really it’s crippling us and we’re in denial that it is in its death throes.

Civilization would not be moving so fast if it didn’t have to constantly outrun its own collapse. And it does collapse. I’ve seen it. Though it’s like a dead horse that people keep digging up and beating, over and over again, it does get buried. “There is no clash of civilizations,” Writes the Invisible Committee. Darkness-cannot-drive-out-darkness-Hate-cannot-drive-out-hate-Wake-Up “There is a clinically dead civilization kept alive by all sorts of life-support machines that spreads a peculiar plague into the planet’s atmosphere.”

This dead and dying civilization is steamrolling over us, it’s just moving so slow that it seems like there’s no reason to panic. And while we should be cautious and vigilant, we shouldn’t panic. We should forgive ourselves, and then rise up with a full heart. Like Mark Twain ingeniously opined, “Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” Revolution is a mighty fragrance, indeed. Not even death can stop those who are free. Like the Mexican Proverb says, “They tried to Bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.”

So with the authority vested in me by the voices in my head, I give you all permission to hug yourself and say, “I am worthy of being healthy and balancing nature with my own hard-fought-for soul” ten times fast while going mach three with your hair on fire through the unhealthy bulwarks of unsustainability that surround you.

I give you permission (as if you needed it) to be a force of nature first, a person second. I give you permission to say no to eco-destroying pipelines, and to join our brothers on the front lines of the Idle No More Movement.

Like Rainer Maria Rilke said, “Everywhere transience is plunging into the depths of being… It is our task to imprint this temporary, perishable earth into ourselves so deeply, so painfully and passionately, that its essence can rise again, “invisibly,” inside us. We are the bees of the invisible. We wildly collect the honey of the visible, to store it in the great golden hive of the invisible.”

I’ve been to the future. I’ve seen these beautiful, bountiful bees of the invisible, wildly collecting the honey of the visible. I’ve seen the precarious balance maintained against entropy. I’ve seen Tolerance overcome Hate. I’ve seen Peace conquer War. I’ve seen Empathy topple Apathy. I’ve seen Hendrix’ world of peace where the power of love overcomes the love of power.

I’ve seen MLK’s Dream overwhelm Big Brother’s nightmare. I’ve seen a future where women are respected and allowed to be the most powerful force for good on the planet (Reclaiming the Sacred Feminine). I’ve walked the thin-as-spider-silk tightrope from Man to Übermensch (Redefining the Sacred Masculine). But I’ve come back. And I’ll keep coming back, to empower you, to encourage you, to liberate you, to undeceive you, and to show you the door that leads to joining me there, in the future. There, where we can shine our light together, back through time, like unflappable beacons of hope, showing the way to a healthier more sustainable world for us all.
