Hi ,
There is something about the mountains that makes me feel alive, there is something about the green meadows that clears my mind, there is something about the conifers that soothes all my worries, and the mineral-rich water nourishes every cell in my body.
Our environment plays such an important role in determining the quality of life that one leads. In the city I find myself just running from one task to another, one chore to another, it has become so stressful that it took me a few days to remind myself to relax on our trip to the mountains. When one reaches a state like this, the only solution I feel is to ‘Rest’.
Not just physical rest, there are different types of rest too, for example - emotional rest where you allow yourself to be authentic and surround yourself with people who help provide emotional peace, or sensory rest where you cut yourself off from sensory overload, which is a common feature in cities.
In cities, sometimes, rest isn’t a priority because we’ve incorrectly measured success. The busier you are, the more successful you will be.
This quote from The Theology of Rest from New York’s Forefront Church., describes this succinctly, “Rest, instead of being something passive, is actually an act of resistance. We live in The City That Never Sleeps — so resting may be the most counter cultural and spiritual thing we do with our lives.”
Rest is crucial, I have realized the importance of it, It goes beyond sleep to recharge your batteries and feel refreshed. Rest the mind, the body and feed the soul. I have been sleeping quite well too to wipe clean the body’s sleep debt.
