“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try!”

Dr. Seuss

In my daily life, there are things that I have to do and things that I like to do - there is always a difference between the two. In the former case, it is out of responsibility, duty, obligation, etc., but in the latter, it is out of joy and passion.

A recent example, my middle son whipped up a recipe and made custard for all of us, it turned out delicious. We thanked him for it, and he was more than happy to make it again - it was a joyful act.

On the other hand, when I ask him to water the plants at home, he refuses to do it, either he will forget, ignore, or do it reluctantly. There is no joy in it.

When we enjoy doing what we are doing, we are fully involved in the process, and we derive some satisfaction from performing the task. At the same time, when a task becomes a responsibility or an obligation, we do it, maybe, “for the heck of it.”

If I made it interesting for him, like making a sprayer from a plastic bottle and using it to water the plants, he would do it, because it is fun.

The trick is to use your creativity to make an ordinary job captivating, to sprinkle it with fun. This applies to adults as well, we go through life doing things we ‘don’t really want to do,’ but if it is something you ‘have to do’, then why not make it more fun by putting on your creative hat?

For instance, when you are asked to do an uninspiring project or a task, use it as an opportunity to reignite your creativity, incorporate some fun elements, and infuse new energy in it, so you get through it without feeling it's a drab.

This can influence our overall approach to life. When we embrace creativity, we cultivate a mindset that seeks out joy and fulfillment in every aspect of our daily routine.
