Hi ,
We all know that Travel is an eye opener, but running a BnB is that and even tests you, depending on the kind of guests you have. At times I have chilled with guests, I take guests for forest walks and even a little farm tour where I introduce them to the different trees, plants and herbs we grow.
Recently I had a guest who was travelling with her kid and kid's nanny. I went out of my way picked them up from the station ensured they were comfortable. Took them for the forest walk, spent time with the kid and played some games with him. But halfway during the stay the mother seemed to be not sending out the right energy.
This was the first guest I actually went out of my way to pick up, to entertain her son, to provide complimentary meals and there was always something lacking, something more. There are two things that I realized, most people today see the world as dog eat dog and the moment you give them a finger they want your entire hand.
The second shocked me, it's true, people can only meet you as deeply as they have met themselves. There's a reason why I say this which I don't want to put down here, but when I asked for feedback, she said something that completely stumped me, no other guest has ever said that and infact they usually mention the opposite in their reviews. After giving it some thought, I realized that it's exactly what she had done and that's why she saw it from that perspective.
Hospitality is tough imagine having to put up with someone for multiple days who won't communicate clearly. Who acts like they are incapable of doing the basics, like going to a store or blowing an arm float. You cannot escape it. You have to put up with every demand for the length of the stay :) All this, with no acknowledgement of thanks, every time she need to say thank you, she would get her kid to say thank you to me.
Sadly you may think that I may need to enforce stronger boundaries, but not all people are the same, I have met fantastic people on my journey as a host. We offer nature at it's finest with a thriving ecosystem, sadly you cannot make everyone happy, so I don't plan on trying :)
