Hi ,
Does this happen to you? Sometimes, when I haven't slept well or wake up on the wrong side of the bed, I keep mum. Don’t feel like interacting with others? Sadly, this is the case with me, at least. It's easy to lose my cool, and let off some steam the moment someone says something that I don’t like. Delving deeper into this, the words of the wise men came to my mind: You are not your mind, but the person who operates it. The moment one resonates with that perspective, you begin to detach from all those moods, irritation and frustration that come to the fore. Getting detached from emotional states is one aspect of learning that you are not your mind. Another aspect is learning that you are not your opinions either. We live in such a pseudo-intellectual climate, where it becomes difficult to differentiate between truth and fiction. We completely identify ourselves with our opinions. We say, “I am right; my opinions are the foundation for my self-worth.” Imagine if you could detach from your opinion and say, “Okay, after 25 years, I need to throw that away and accept yours.” If we develop this kind of awareness in our daily interactions, we can listen to opposing opinions with great interest and a sense of ease and security. To develop that awareness, we should use our mind properly to get rid of all the waste. This is where I find the practice of Yoga so powerful. It's not just the physical practice, but consciously working with the breath to create a bridge between the body and the mind. The practice becomes a laboratory for awareness. If this exploration resonates with you, I invite you to join me on the mat. Perhaps the journey of Yoga is not about controlling the mind, but about becoming free enough to see it clearly.
