Today starts the yearly celebration of Navaratri, a festival that spans 10 days. In Sanskrit Nava means nine and Ratri is Nights, so it literally translates to 9 nights.
Held in honour of the divine feminine, Navaratri is associated with a battle that took place between Goddess Durga and the demon Mahishasura to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
In India people most people who celebrate Navaratri fast, while in some parts people feast and there's also a specific dance to celebrate.
But for the spiritually inclined, these 10 days are another chance to conquer one of your demons. I have started a 10 day body reset detox that involves a very controlled diet and rejuvenation program, that includes fasting, meditation, workouts etc.
Conquering demons aren't easy, as I write this at the end of my first day, I feel a heaviness in my head, but also some clarity, my stomach seems empty even though all my meals are done.
We have been warned that Headache, Anxiety, Irritability, Tremors, Change in appetite, Ups and downs in energy levels and even Nausea can occur with different intensities until your body resets.
Why am I doing this to myself, why not, a period of care for the many times I have consumed everything without concern. Each one of us has a Demon, something that keeps us comfortable, sometimes a little change to shake things up, to get out of the cocoon to discover a new version of oneself.
