Hi ,
I recently watched a film based on the ugly truth of social media, how it has reduced our attention span, made us so judgmental, superficial and created an illusionary world for us.
It is the false reality of our times, when we form a story in our head of a person’s life based on the ‘reel’ we saw on Instagram, or see how happening a person is due to the fancy places he visits, food he eats or clothes he wears.
It is a difficult phase, where everyone wants everything quickly, just at the click of a button - your food, groceries, medicines, clothes, books, furniture, everything comes at your doorstep. It has become so easy that you don’t even need to get out of your house any more.
At the same time, getting things delivered to your doorstep is helpful for senior citizens, or people who are unwell or immobile.
You have apps to remind you to even drink water, you have AI to help you create art, or write a poem for you, then you can post it online to see how many likes you get.
When you really ponder over these things, you realise that the world is ‘evolving’ towards a superficially created bubble. It is all about likes and dislikes, getting followers, becoming influencers, and we are loyal consumers of this false reality, it all comes down to how good you are at marketing yourself!
This translates into ego boost, feeling good about yourselves, and it is a way to escape the reality you are in.
What are we doing to ourselves? Is this a way to fill some void? What role has social media played in your life?
