Hi ,

Our lives have become so mechanical, that we need some humor—an elixir—to make it tolerable. Caught up in the day-to-day grind to make ends meet, I see my children (at least the 2.5-year-old and 8-year-old) immersed in the present. The smiles on their faces, the giggles at silly things, and complaints about trivial matters (according to an adult mind), like she took my toy or threw it away, add the missing layer to adult existence.

Life is simpler as a young child, adults add layers and layers of complexities to their lives. Humor, lightness, and not taking things too seriously become the essentials of modern-day living. The ability to laugh when the chips are down is an art worthy of cultivating.

Humor gives you wings to rise above any situation, even if it is only for a moment, it becomes a tool for survival and an act of creativity.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way…It is this spiritual freedom — which cannot be taken away — that makes life meaningful and purposeful."

If food is important for your body, humor can nourish your soul. How many times have you seen a child just laugh for no reason? When my youngest one sees us laughing, she doesn’t know what the joke is, but she will still burst into laughter. What a precious lesson to learn from children!

An old song by Louis Armstrong from the 50s comes to mind which my mother-in-law sings often to the children ~

Oh, when you're smilin'

When you're smilin'

The whole world smiles with you, baby

Yes, when you're laughin'

Oh, when you're laughin'

The sun comes shinin' through

But when you're cryin'

You bring on the rain

So stop your sighin', baby

And be happy again

Yes, and keep on smilin'

Keep on smilin', baby

And the whole world smiles with you

Have a humorous week!
