A Child Gives Birth to a Mother

A lot of people wished me 'Happy Mother's day' on Mothers day, a day for mothers around the world to feel special. My facebook news feed was flooded with pictures of daughters with their mothers, of course I admire and respect the sentiments of each one in this matter. But do we need a special day to celebrate motherhood? Why can't everyday be a reminder of 'Mother's day' where we nurture the divine feminine in each one of us? After all, most mother's nurture and nourishe the souls of their children every day, to the best of her abilities.

For me personally, motherhood has been a transforming and a challenging experience. I wasn't prepared to be a mother in the first place, or din't sing lullabies to my son at night or decorated the room for his arrival. The journey was quite different for me, and in retrospect, its been a wonderful one. The thought that we are bringing up a human being (second one is on the way too :)) is easy to give you cold feet. But at the same time, that 'spiritual being' has chosen you as his/her guide or mother makes you overcome your fears and turn every moment into a beautiful learning experience. No one is perfect, yes, there is no perfect mother, but each one does the best they can.

These powerful words, “A child gives birth to a mother,” really puts things in perspective for me. I have grown along with my 5year old, and I am actually, learning a lot from him about the simple pleasures of life, which is forgotten by adults. Am sure every mother feels the same way! Here's to celebrating the sacred feminine in each one of us that emerges strongly when a new being enters your life.

“What does it mean to reclaim the feminine? It means to honor our sacred connection to life that is present in every moment. It means to realize that life is one whole and begin to recognize the interconnections that form the web of life. It means to realize that everything, every act, even every thought, affects the whole. And it also means to allow life to speak to us.” ~ Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

Reclaiming the Sacred Feminine

Twin Flames

In a world where the sword has forsaken the sheath, we are, as R. D. Laing wrote, “…effectively destroying ourselves by violence masquerading as love.” We are so busy cutting ourselves with the glory of the blade (covert, invulnerable, militaristic, masculine energy) that we don’t realize that the once healing properties of the sheath (overt, vulnerable, loving, feminine energy) has become dried up and nearly useless.

The Wild Woman Archetype and the Power of Intuition

Wild woman

“Why do women keep trying to bend and fold themselves into shapes that are not theirs? I must say, from years of clinical observation of this problem, that most of the time it is not because of deep-seated masochism or a malignant dedication to self-destruction or anything of that nature. More often it is because the woman simply doesn’t know any better. She is unmothered.” ~ Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

An Expression of the Divine: The Gift of Giving Birth

Giving Birth

“Many of our problems in US maternity care stem from the fact that we leave no room for recognizing when nature is smarter than we are.” ~ Ina May Gaskin, Birth Matters: A Midwife’s Manifesta

After the long turn of the clock and the seasons that have passed while we meditated on the enduring art of pregnancy, the process of giving birth can be nothing but a shock to the system.
