Hi , This morning, while I was doing my regular Yoga practice. I felt I wasn’t moving too well, and I wasn’t going deeper into the posture. Apart from the morning chaos, there was something in me that was not at ease.
The lazy mind that didn’t want me to practice, the mind that wanted me to rest on a Sunday, and coming up with reasons not to get on the mat. That is where discipline comes in. That is where showing up for yourself comes in. Discipline is not the opposite of freedom, but finding freedom within the discomfort. We think when I am ready, I will become a writer, or when the time is right, I will do this, for example, you can’t wait; you have to write anyway.
You have to do the things that matter to you anyway. The feeling of being capable comes after the showing up, not before it. We have to chase the willingness to show up on the days when nothing in you wants to. Discomfort and pain are part of the process; it's not a sign you are doing it wrong or have failed. Sometimes it is proof of effort. On days when you find it difficult to do the things that you really desire, or have always wanted to do, do it anyway! Sometimes the practice begins before the actual practice.
PS - I went through the complete practice, anyway! :)
