Hard times seem to put us into a state where we crave inspiration, but experiences in my life have put forth a path that I wanted to share.
Way back in 2006, I had a high paying job but could not stand the office politics etc. Fractal Enlightenment was the first blog I started working on part time, I got my first payout by blogging, $100 that took a year or so to accumulate and quit a job that paid me over 10 times that amount in a month.
I started blogging fulltime, Fractal Enlightenment, Goan Food Recipes, A Blog Full of Games were some of the many blogs, ten years later we saw revenue reaching unimaginable amounts, $10k+ a month.
But this later trickled down to what it is now, a couple of 100s every month, which is fine for the amount of energy we put in these days. We find it hard to even send out a regular newsletter.
But you must know I believed in myself that something good will come out of it, I believed that office politics is a mediocre game and was not something I wanted to be part of. I believed that blogging will get me through and it did, it propelled us into a new phase of our lives.
With the slow collapse of our revenue stream we had some of the toughest financial lows, we literally were in a decent amount of debt and there's a whole lot of stuff that comes with it, tempers with the frustration, there's virtually no sort of entertainment or even going out for a meal for extended periods of time.
You really begin to question your life choices and the outcome of all the effort you have put in. The lowest lows hit and I shifted focus from the blogs to managing a property owned by my family on Airbnb, when I say managing, it also includes cleaning the entire house before a guest arrives which Bhavika has helped me with so often.
No matter what people would think, I would proudly say that the place has been cleaned by me, even the toilets, because I put my heart into it, I want every guest to have a memorable experience and slowly over time, we were ranked the highest property in the area, along with that came my Super host status, with that an opportunity to guide new hosts and then something unexpected, but much-needed, manifested.
I was randomly messaged by an HR Recruiter asking me if I would like to do a freelance job related to Airbnb, a type of job that I was looking for throughout the lows mentioned above, just showed up when I put my heart and soul into doing, I had the intent to get something more out of what I was doing and it somehow showed up when I was not looking for it.
It has been a life-changing experience that helped us have a holiday after 4 years, where we did a 6500+ kms road trip across the country to places that have boggled our minds.
If you're going through a hard time, I just want you to know, don't give up when things get tough, put in your best, and set your intent on something better you will be taken care of I promise.
