There is a compelling scene in Fight Club where Tyler Durden pulls out Raymond Hessel a cashier from a store, puts a gun to his head, threatening to pull the trigger if he did not follow his dreams. Raymond gave up on his dream of becoming a vet because it was too hard and took up a job he is not happy with, not realising his true potential. It was only when there was a threat of losing his life, was Raymond forced to follow his dreams. There is a bit of Raymond in all of us, doing things we don’t want to, settling for less, doing mundane chores, or perhaps, giving up on our dreams to make others happy. Then we lack the motivation to go and pursue what we always wanted to do.
Tyler tells him, “If you’re not on your way to becoming a veterinarian in six weeks you will be dead!” Think of life as if someone is holding you at gunpoint, as if your life was over. The next morning when you wake up, you will be grateful that you are still alive, you are still breathing, then every day, as Seneca said, becomes a bonus. Now go and live your life!!! "Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of Raymond K. Hessel’s life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever tasted.," Tyler Durden.
