Hi ,

Recently, a young girl was playing with my 4-year-old daughter when she saw that Cahya had an extra thumb on one hand; she began to laugh at her. Cahya didn't react to this because she didn't know why the girl was laughing, but I was close by and spoke to the girl, telling her that she is blessed and her hands have magical power. We both walked away, leaving the young girl looking stunned with my response.

The thought that immediately struck me was, why does society view anything that looks different with a raised eyebrow? Why are children not sensitised enough not to make fun of someone who is or looks a little different?

It's the societal conditioning that is indifferent. This is something that reflects across all aspects of our lives. If you are not following the norm, something is wrong with you. If you do not conform, you are insane or ignored.

It’s a strange world we live in. We are taught to blend in long before we are taught to stand out. Children aren't born with prejudice; they are taught what to judge through the subtle cues of the adult world. When society views difference through a lens of suspicion, it reveals its own deep-seated fear of the unknown.

But the moment we stop seeking validation from a conditioned world, its cold looks lose all power. Its the need of the hour to break the cycle of unconscious judgment, and remind the next generation that perfection isn't about fitting into a predetermined mould—it’s about having the courage to live your own unique truth
