Hi ,
We are always overwhelmed by work, finishing this task, running this errand and that, submitting a project, meeting this deadline, attending client calls, and the day is gone, it's over, and you lie down on your bed wondering what did you do today.
We are so thoroughly conditioned to believe that we have to keep moving, and moving forward is the only way to move.
Marcus Aurelius, puts it beautifully in his book, Meditations, “If you can cut yourself—your mind—free of what other people do and say, of what you’ve said or done, of the things that you’re afraid will happen, the impositions of the body that contains you and the breath within, and what the whirling chaos sweeps in from outside, so that the mind is freed from fate, brought to clarity, and lives life on its own recognizance — doing what’s right, accepting what happens, and speaking the truth — If you can cut free of impressions that cling to the mind, free of the future and the past—can make yourself, as Empedocles says, “a sphere rejoicing in its perfect stillness,” and concentrate on living what can be lived (which means the present) . . . then you can spend the time you have left in tranquillity. And in kindness. And at peace with the spirit within you.”
We deserve moments of stillness, of not moving at all, of sitting and watching the birds fly by, or sit quietly and read a book. Take a moment to check in with yourself, how are you feeling, what do you want to do with your life? Take a moment to be grateful or the moment you received gratitude, or the moment that brought you immense joy.
Imagine a car running full speed all the time, how worn out will its engine get, how worn out will its tyres be, it will break down eventually. But if the speed is well maintained and taken care of, then the car will run for a longer time.
Slow down, and enjoy your coffee. You deserve it!
