Hi   :)

15 years ago when Bhavika and I backpacked across different parts of India, we had a decent camera to take pictures of places we visited. We managed to fund part of our trips by blogging, writing stories and even selling our photographs to travel magazines. We had all our photography stored on a relatively new 1 TB hard disc, around 15 years ago and this hard disk went kaput randomly one day, it just died.

This was a very worrisome time for me, I could not recover any of the data and I sent it to two HDD recovery centres, the first one returned it back saying they cannot do anything. The second one said, they could do it but it would cost me a minimum of Rs 50000, and that was a lot of money especially for a back packer. We could not do it, this hard disc still lies in my draw, I was hoping that maybe someday I would get my hands on those pictures again.

But out of sight out of mind, the hard disc lies there and yesterday an e-waste collection drive was announced for tomorrow and I decided to finally let go of it, I actually thought of emptying out all my unused computer parts and hard discs. (I assemble my own computers for years now)

The thought that crossed my mind was that of the Tibetan monks, who create their beautiful meticulous mandala art over hours or days, and then after a few days just wipe it all away. An act which signifies no matter how beautiful or majestic, every thing is impermanent.

Today I have a far better camera and a set of lenses that can do wonderful things, but at times I prefer standing there when the moments are far too captivating and let myself dissolve into it. I rather experience the moment now than lose the experience trying to get a fantastic picture, thanks to the broken hard disc.
