Hi ,
Gestures are powerful, they speak volumes without the actual use of words, and they have the capacity to drastically improve someone’s life.
Here is an example of such a gesture that helped us - Due to various reasons, we had to shift out of the city where Kayde, our elder son’s school, is located. We couldn’t move back when offline school started, as we just had a baby.
We were quite worried about it - what would we do, how would we manage online? He would have to miss school and so on. Then something wonderful happened.
A family from our son’s class came forward and expressed their willingness to host him, so he could attend school physically, and didn’t have to miss out on meeting his classmates and all the other activities which otherwise wouldn't have been possible for him to do in a hybrid set up.
We were deeply touched by this warm gesture of this family, we weren’t even close friends or anything - our sons were classmates, that’s about it. After a few weeks, another family offered to host him. Seven weeks passed this way, and he attended school till the academic year came to an end today.
Of course, gestures like these do not often find the space in our day-to-day lives. Yet, life gives us opportunities to perform simple gestures that can add a little light to people's lives.
It's so often that life gives us the blues and at that time, receiving a hug just feels so good, it kind of makes you feel that there's someone to share your burden with. Hugs are wonderful gestures to receive and give, for those who hugging doesn't come naturally, a hug may feel a little odd, but sometimes a group hug is easier to participate in and can have equally positive effects.
We live in a dog-eat-dog world where only money seems to speak the loudest. It's gestures like these that echoes out and truly make a difference in someone’s life. After all, that's what a community is all about - to help each other in times of difficulty, even if it means going that extra mile.
It reflects the true spirit of being human, and not everything is dark and grim. There is always hope!
