Sometimes situations arise that turn your life upside down and make you feel hopeless - it can be financial problems, relationship issues, health problems, career etc. We begin to sulk, feel victimised, blame others and get immersed in the feeling of self-pity and the woe-is-me attitude. We begin to blame others for the situation we are in, look for external validation and approval, or we blame ourselves and begin to doubt our own capabilities. To feel emotionally overwhelmed is a natural response in such a situation, it isn’t easy to stay calm and be present when you are in a financial muddle, and you have a family to support, for example. All these negative emotions make us look at the situation through a filter, and we keep going round and round in a loophole. Our thoughts are completely clouded by our emotions, which worsens the actual situation. The first step towards resolving is to separate our feelings and emotions from the situation. Then, we can focus on the situation, and work towards finding a solution for it. Like the age-old adage, “This too shall pass.” Look back at your life, you would have felt hopeless before, but you made it through and have come so far. No matter how big the hurdle, you will get through it.
