Digging Deeper into the Golden Ratio

The golden ratio, or the divine section, A+B:(A+B)-B or (A+B)/A, represented by phi, and it’s ratio to one. Occurs when the ratio of two numbers equal their sum. As is, as to.

Everything follows the pattern that created it, in mathematics, and in nature. The true golden ratio is a ratio applicable for determining the past, present, and future states of any pattern, even outside of numbers.

It is believed that this ratio is everywhere in nature. Over 2300 years old, perhaps this is the reason we find the golden rectangle, a rectangle whose shorter side is as to the golden ratio to the longer side, aesthetically pleasing?

Perhaps aesthetic pleasure occurs when the brain witnesses the pattern it is most familiar with, when nature views its reflection.

A synopsis of the Golden Ratio

It is the gold standard of ratios! A golden ratio, also known as a golden section, golden mean, and divine proportion is related to fibonacci’s sequence of numbers.

Mathematicians as old as Euclid studied its appearance in the regular pentagon and the golden rectangle. In 300BC. In a pentagon, the area is one half the perimeter multiplied by the apothem. Here the golden ratio can be illustrated through the five-fold symmetry of the pentagon, the apothem represents B and any side of the pentagon is A, as to the golden ratio.

The golden ratio was also studied by Greek mathematician Pythagoras. The Pythagorean theorem, a² + b² = c², as to the golden ratio, a as to c² and c, as a² + b². The Pythagorean theorem arises from the value of phi, the only number that’s square is one more than itself. Illustrated by 1+√Φ=Φ, a²+b²=c², 1+2=3.

However, it goes back even further as far as the history of civilized man. It is known that the dimensions of pi and phi were used in the construction of the great pyramids of Giza.

Supposedly the great pyramid’s base is 230.4 meters, as to it’s height, 146.5 meters, are at a golden ratio, forming golden triangles at the pyramid’s sides. It’s surface ratio is also analogous to that of the golden ratio. Geometrically, the great pyramid can also represent pi, the difference of a circle’s radius to it’s circumference.

These things may not seem very significant, but one could reach an understanding of these rates and ratios past the numbers once it is known that the great pyramids existed before civilized man even had recorded documents of the values or even the numbers themselves for pi, and phi, yet they appear almost perfectly in these huge megalithic archaeological structures.

Does this suggest that the meaning of these rates and ratios is beyond the perfect math we use to understand and represent it?

If you understand the truth of the golden ratio behind the mathematics, as the application that is self applicable to everything, even determining the past, present, and future states of any pattern. By plotting the points of a pattern, a system emerges, this system could be used to determine the value of its future iterations.

For example, if one is valued by two halves of 0.5, then two equals fourths of 0.5, and three equals sixths of 0.5. In time, and quantum wave physics, with the partial momentum of any object you can determine total velocity.

The ratio illustrates how our perception of reality is determined by a higher awareness of what reality is. Everything becomes as to what it has become.

Beauty is Much More than Skin Deep

The society we live in has conditioned us to giving so much importance to a way a person looks, dresses up, presents himself/herself. That is outer beauty which is not going to last forever. People get so influenced by external factors – an ad they see in the papers for a new outfit, or their favorite model/actor displaying the latest in fashion or simply peer pressure.

Wearing the coolest watch or owning the latest gadget, wearing a mask of creams, scents, lotions to fit in what the society defines as ‘beautiful’.

Advertisements don’t try to get us to buy a product so that we will be better people; they sell products because we can be beautiful if we own them. This variably creates a false facade built on greed, money and ego.

Outer beauty by itself is a tiny tiny aspect of our ‘Divine Nature’. Its just a temporary illusion of showing the world ‘how cool you are’ and to satisfy that desire of gaining some attention. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, which we fail to see many times. I have often seen people indifferent to others who don’t dress like them, or don’t follow the ‘norm’ or are just different.

For example – In India there was an ad campaign on skin lightning creams that portrayed dark-complexioned women as depressed with low self-esteem. The campaign was heavily criticized for being insensitive and unethical.

But that did not stop people, who fell for this ridiculous bias, to buy the products to transform their natural skin colour. To challenge this unrealistic ad, there is another ongoing campaign called ‘Dark is Beautiful‘ that is against the toxic belief that a person’s worth is measured by the fairness of their skin.

beauty is more than skin-deepI remember my mother use to keep telling me this during my teenage years, when I had fallen into this materialistic trap of decorating the outer self.

She asked me, “What about dressing up the soul? The time spent in front of the mirror, use that time to do something for the inner self.” I just ignored it at that time, but it perhaps resided at a subconscious level. Now after many years, I have realised what she truly meant.

The real beauty lies within and not how much you flaunt your outer self in public. What is the soul?

Probably hard to define, its not something you see, but you feel. It forms the fabric of your being, it is where magic resides! The soul has the answers to the questions you seek, but only if you care to listen. Imagine seeing an ad where simply dressing up like a celebrity is ridiculed and it guides viewers to question their false beliefs. That is hard to imagine!

Remove the mask and look within, inner beauty can be created from within. You come across people who exude immense joy, give least importance to their appearance, have renounced the consumerist attitude, but are still happy and beautiful. This thinking and belief reflects on the person’s outer beauty as well, radiating positive energy and a healthy outlook to life.

If you feel beautiful and are content about it, then you will definitely look beautiful outside. Deep down we all know that appearance is rarely going to lead us to happiness, wisdom and Truth!

Changing times like these require change in attitude and a deeper understanding of how these corporations/media work, they only play with the human mind and paint a false picture to satisfy their greed.

I found beautiful words attributed to Audrey Hepburn and crafted by Sam Levenson, sums up the post –

“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you will never walk alone.”

The Meaning of the Pineal Gland

The pineal gland, a pine-cone shaped gland of the endocrine system, is a highly essential part of the brain necessary to our survival. It is often associated with the third eye or the Ajna chakra, when activated, leads one to higher realms of consciousness.

The third eye gives us perception of the universe around us through the five senses. Through our five senses we have self awareness and intelligence: sentience.

As a chakra, the third eye, the pineal gland represents the point at which the body receives energy from the universe that keeps our lives sustained; the main access point between the astral body and the physical body. Its function in the brain is essential to our very consciousness.

Without awareness of the universe, you have no point of reference at which you have self awareness. Without self awareness, you have neither consciousness nor logical thought.

We use our perception, our consciousness and our senses to gain awareness of energy in our world via information around us.

Without the pineal gland there would be no senses, meaning we would have no way to locate food, mates, safety, warmth, and the many necessities of every day life in both man kind and the animal kingdom.

The pineal gland is located beneath the cerebral cortex where the two thalamic hemispheres of the brain join, where the brain regulates consciousness, interprets the body’s motory and sensory functions, and produces melatonin. A serotonin derivative, that controls our sleep cycle.

Melatonin is not only necessary for proper sleep, but it also regulates the onset of puberty and fight against harmful and free radicals. Almost at the center of the brain, its location can also be understood as the third eye, the center of the brow. Focusing on the third eye stimulates not only the pineal gland but the thalamus and the cerebral cortex as well.

In children, the pineal gland secretes more melatonin than in adults, which is said to inhibit sexual development. After puberty, the pineal gland shrinks and releases less melatonin.

The pineal gland is only the size of a single grain of rice but it has been claimed to produce dimethyltryptamine, DMT, the most powerful psychedelic, and possibly most powerful psychoactive, substance known to man. However it calcifies, and produces less as the body ages.

The gland calcifies when it encounters fluoride. These calcifications are known as corpora arenacea, or brain sand. This brain sand is composed of calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, magnesium phosphate and ammonium phosphate.

Some say the reason our water is fluoridated is to intentionally calcify the pineal gland, decreasing our intelligence, resulting in a more submissive society. More willing to follow it’s leaders. Something to ponder on though is that water fluoridation has been around since the 40’s, for various reasons. This means that over time our civilization is using less and less of our pineal glands, and producing less DMT.

While knowledge of the Pineal Gland has been available for thousands of years, a lot of ancient religious symbolism going back to the Sumerians, Egyptians, Vatican and more have pineal gland symbols incorporated in them.

According to some scientists DMT is constantly being produced in the brain in trace amounts. When DMT is used as a psychedelic, the user experiences a very intense feeling of unity and oneness, perhaps this oneness is the end-all-be-all oneness of conscious itself? DMT production and consciousness in the brain, is necessary for us to further understand and survive in the world around us.

Understanding the world around us through facts allows us to increase the efficiency of our perception, and our total being. Knowledge of positive fact is beneficial to the perception. With knowledge we have awareness of what our perception represents, this is why DMT is massively released during near-death experiences.

The reason of this, is the awareness of the imminence of death. The brain becomes aware that it is going to die and releases DMT at the last minute to stretch out the time it has left, by peaking your perception, so it can perform the last minute functions it needs to complete, and you can learn the things you need to know before death.

People often understand these experiences as flashbacks, entering the afterlife, becoming one with great peace or a light and the ultimate oneness of the universe. Perhaps death itself is what the DMT in our pineal glands is trying to teach us – that a totality of being is total peace and oneness.

LSD & Its Usage in Human Life and Evolution

The funny part about LSD is that Albert Hofmann, the scientist who discovered it, claims that LSD discovered him. Although post the discovery of LSD, with the mass usage of LSD in the psychedelic sixties he started to believe it was actually a problem, what he called his “problem child.”

But years later his problem child turned into a wonder drug and in his own words. “I think that in human evolution it has never been as necessary to have this substance LSD. It is just a tool to turn us into what we are supposed to be.”

What a stark contrast to what he earlier thought about Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD / LSD-25). So what made him change his mind about it? Lets go down the rabbit hole into how LSD has shaped and influenced vast segments of human existence.

But before we go there lets see what Sandoz, the pharmaceutical company, that Hofmann was working for when he synthesized LSD, has to say. This is a short film made in 1965 “LSD: The Wonder Drug of the Future”

Its been 70 years since LSD has been discovered, lets take a look at the effect its had in various fields such as technology, music, spirituality, writing and LSD today, should you do it?

LSD & Technology

Imagine a world without the iPhone and the iPad, what about a world without Apple as a whole. Yes Steve Jobs dropped LSD and even said that its possibly one of the most important things he did in his life.

This is what Steve Jobs had to say about it, “Taking LSD was a profound experience, one of the most important things in my life. LSD shows you that there’s another side to the coin, and you can’t remember it when it wears off, but you know it. It reinforced my sense of what was important—creating great things instead of making money, putting things back into the stream of history and of human consciousness as much as I could.”

But he’s not the only one, Bill Gates , founder of Microsoft and creator of Windows, had his share of experiences although he wasn’t so open about it as compared to Steve.

Kevin Herbert, an early employee of Cisco systems, claims that LSD was his tool to crack the most technically challenging problems he faced and was also stepped in to prevent Cisco from drug-testing technologists.

Remember studying the double helix structure of DNA in school, discovered by Francis Crick, although they didn’t tell you that when he figured out the structure of DNA, Crick was high on LSD.

The other is Kary Mullis, who discovered how to amplify certain DNA sequences so that we can view them. In a Q&A interview published in the September, 1994, issue of California Monthly, Mullis said, “Back in the 1960s and early ’70s I took plenty of LSD. A lot of people were doing that in Berkeley back then. And I found it to be a mind-opening experience. It was certainly much more important than any courses I ever took.” Both Francis and Kary are nobel prize winners.

Neuroscientist Dr John C. Lilly made significant contributions to psychology, brain research, computer theory, medicine, ethics, and interspecies communication. He was a pioneer in the field of electronic brain stimulation and also the first person to map pain and pleasure pathways in the brain.

John also created the world’s first sensory deprivation chamber, that are used by NASA etc, and also used the chamber to experiment with LSD.

Another noted personality that strikes my mind is Carl Sagan, astronomer, astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, science popularizer and science communicator, although we aren’t certain of his LSD usage but he was an advocate for Marijuana. He was skeptical about how LSD was being used by the masses.

Sagan felt that since LSD was a new and unknown chemical and it was not tested by centuries of cultural use, it could be hazardous because of its minute dosage requirements its and delayed come on effect. A user would not be able to realize he has consumed too much until it is too late.

A common misconception that people have is they pop a pill and voila LSD will turn them into a creative genius.

Tom Robbins is a best selling author that put this concept across very well, “My life doesn’t revolve nor has it ever revolved, around psychedelics. They enhanced my life — psychedelics can enhance the life of any intelligent, courageous person, and they might even represent our last great hope for planetary survival — but they didn’t replace my life or become its central focus. Second, it shouldn’t be implied that the acid elves sell talent by the pound — or the microgram. The psychedelic drug doesn’t exist that can make a creative genius out of a hack or turn a neurotic weenie into a happy fully-conscious human being. You have to bring something to the table, and be willing to risk your belief systems. Some people want to go to heaven without dying.”

One of the most noted writing personalities who had his life intertwined with LSD was Hunter S Thompson, who created his own form of Journalism, Gonzo Journalism.

Gonzo journalism involves an approach to accuracy through the reporting of personal experiences and emotions, as compared to traditional journalism, which favors a detached style and relies on facts or quotations that can be verified by third parties.

Psychedelic Hunter GonzoGonzo journalism disregards the strictly edited product favored by newspaper media and strives for a more personal approach; the personality of a piece is equally as important as the event the piece is on. Use of sarcasm, humor, exaggeration, and profanity is common.

If you watched ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,’ Hunter is the character that Johnny Depp played. Here’s some of Hunter’s stuff,

“In four short years he has turned our country from a prosperous nation at peace into a desperately indebted nation at war. But so what? He is the President of the United States, and you’re not. Love it or leave it.” – on George W. Bush. I wonder what he would say about president Obama?

There are so many authors who have been influenced by this substance, let me just run through some . Timothy Leary, the author of High Priest; Flashbacks; Confessions of a Hope Fiend and Neuropolitique to name a few.

Aldous Huxley, with his Brave New world and The Doors of perception which are brilliant, to say the least. Roald Dahl,Madelene D’Lengle, E.E. Milne, E.B. White and William Goldman and Ken Kesey to name a few. “The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age, which mean never losing your enthusiasm,” said Huxley.

LSD & Music

Some of the most prominent musicians and bands used LSD, The Beatles, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Jimmy Hendrix, Pink Floyd , Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs, Carlos Santana, Moby Grape, Blue Cheer, Sly and the Family Stone, It’s A Beautiful Day, Creedence Clarwater Revival and more.

Well yes, that’s not something I would recommend when you’re playing in front of 450,000 people. I do not recommend it in that scenario, but I think under supervision it can be very revealing. Everybody sooner or later has to drop the luggage and the baggage of illusions.

LSD Today & You

LSD is an illegal substance and as far as my knowledge goes, illegal in every country. Although this does not mean that it’s not available and you may find access to it. The problem here is because of its illegal manufacturing there is no guarantee about the quality of acid you may get your hands on and there is a good chance that you may not even be doing LSD.

A user’s experience on LSD is controlled by his environment and thus you are not guaranteed to have a good time. There are findings that support a model of LSD psychosis as a drug-induced schizophreniform reaction in persons vulnerable to both substance abuse and psychosis.

LSD has also helped in the formation of the visionary art genre where artist put down their experiences on canvas.

LSD has also been used to treat psychiatric patients in Switzerland until the 1930s, the videos of the testing of LSD on British military troops also makes a very interesting study. and I think the way forward is for thorough research to be put forth to challenge the system about the use and benefits of this potent psychoactive. Thankfully there already are people on the job!

The Fibonacci Sequence

The Fibonacci sequence is possibly the most simple recurrence relation occurring in nature. It is 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89, 144… each number equals the sum of the two numbers before it, and the difference of the two numbers succeeding it. It is an infinite sequence which goes on forever as it develops.

The Golden Ratio/Divine Ratio or Golden Mean

golden-ratio-fibonacci-sequenceThe quotient of any Fibonacci number and it’s predecessor approaches Phi, represented as ϕ (1.618), the Golden ratio. The Golden Ratio is best understood geometrically by the golden rectangle.

A rectangle unevenly divided resulting into one square and one rectangle, the square’s sides would have the ratio of 1:1, and the new rectangle would be exactly proportionate to the original rectangle – 1:1.618.

This iteration can continue both ways, infinitely. If you plot a quarter circle inside each of the squares as they reiterate, the golden spiral is formed. The golden spiral is possibly the most simple mathematic pattern that occurs in nature like shells of snails, sea shells, horns, flowers, plants. Numbers are only what we use to organize quantitative information.

The Golden Ratio can be applied to any number of geometric forms including circles, triangles, pyramids, prisms, and polygons.

The golden ratio is formed by thirds within thirds, sixths, the connection between two and three, including every even and odd number itself. The ratio itself represents the transcendence of numbers, understanding our world is not numbers, but what numbers represent.

Through the spiral, the ratio illustrates how the numbers, all quantities, are quality. Eventually, all quality can be represented through quantity. Properties qualitative and quantitative are just labels of information, our gathered indisputable fact.

Sunflowers have a Golden Spiral seed arrangement. This provides a biological advantage because it maximizes the number of seeds that can be packed into a seed head.

If you graph any number system, eventually patterns appear. In mathematics, numbers and their patterns do not only continue infinitely linear, but in all directions. For example, considering infinite decimal expansion, even the shortest segments have an infinite amount of points.

Our universe and the numbers not only go on infinitely linear, but even it’s short segments have infinite points.

Nature by Numbers

The golden ratio is not the only mathematical pattern that reaches infinity, there are many other patterns as well that reach infinity. Knowing this, ask yourself, how could infinity occur twice? If something were to happen infinitely, how could it happen twice?

The answer is simple, infinity represents what is eternal, what is truly whole. For example, if infinity were to be used as a variable in mathematics like all other numbers, it would be denoted as 1∞, 2∞, 3∞, 4∞, etc.

The oneness of everything factual is what you know, what you perceive, what you are aware of, is all the universe looking at itself. This is the universe, even you are the universe, us and everything we know is all the same thing.

Since the numbers are everywhere, everything is a part of a pattern. Reflections of reflections, wheels within wheels. Life itself is a Fractal.
